Best Products: Orka's Ice Cube Trays

Ice cube trays are not something we used to think about. As long as they held water long enough for it to freeze they were fine with us. Then we started using Orka's Ice Cube Trays, and all of that changed.

They have two features that make them different than the usual suspects - a plastic lid that covers the whole tray and a silicone bottom to every compartment. The lid does a few things - stops you from spilling water when filling the trays, makes them easier to stack, and, most importantly, keeps out the weird freezer particles and odors that seem to always affect our ice.

But the real genius of the Orka Ice Cube Tray is the way the bottom of every compartment is made of silicone, meaning all that's needed to remove a cube is a push from a finger in the right place. No more banging the tray against the counter or twisting it every way we can to loosen the suckers. The feature also makes it possibly to re-fill a half full tray and still access the frozen cubes without disturbing the still-freezing ones.

Available in several colors (we have raspberry) at Amazon for $9.95.

I had one of these and found the silicone bottoms aren't so easy to "pop". So I did the "twist" method and it snapped in two. =(

These are the absolute worst ice cube trays i have ever used. Don't waste the $10.
