On a recent trip to Winnipeg, Canada, we picked up the February '08 copy of Canadian House and Home. Inside we found this color-rich piece on Oorbee Roy's home in Montreal, where she relocated from New York with her husband after 9/11.
Blogging Canadian House & Home: True Colours
Roy began transforming their apartment with a mural on the bathroom ceiling, based on aplona, an Indian technique of making patterns on the floor with pastes and flours passed from mother to daughter. She continued by adding bold color in the kitchen and bedroom textiles.
With the move came a career change for Roy, formerly a computer programmer, with the founding Om Home, her modern Indian textile company.
Our favorite part of Roy's home is her unique bedroom storage solution: she sandwiched a vintage teak dresser between two Ikea armoires to make a built-in, custom look.
