Any good ideas out there to make parks more eco-friendly without taking away a place to kick a soccer ball around?

great question lizzykewl, i was just looking at my office building's expansive and very unused lawn and wondering what they could do about that in this 105 degree heat and major water shortage!

i am thinking of asking our landlord if i can rip up the dead nasty "lawn" (about 10'x10' in a concrete box) in front of our apartment and do some succulents and other natives with a little recycled stepping stone path. my lack of a green thumb is my only inhibition!
