On these virtual pages we've featured, perhaps, some offenders: the Sterling residence could arguably be considered a "Bauhaus Bunker," and the NextGen home definitely falls under the category of "Green-zone Special."
Heaven forbid we renters live in an FU-ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit, or "mother-in-law" apartment — the FU stands for what it sounds like it stands for), but then there's always the specter of the "Never-ending Remodel" for the homeowners among us. Don't know what all this means? Take a look.

wow, that's a mean-spirited article!
who knows what the financial / health status is of any of these owners....
ya know, anyone can have a stylish home when you have beaucoup d'argent... merely hire somone with style to decorate!

Wow - I also agree that this was rather mean. How sad one must be if they read this website (or the Seattle Weekly) and see their own home!
Not everyone has a financial situation that allows them to have a perfect house - and not everyone wants one either.

how humiliating!

I thought it was a funny read- obviously complete generalization and fabrication about the home owners purely for entertainment value- at least that's what I got from the tone of the article and colourful language used. Personally I would love to live in a "Bauhaus Bunker" hehe.

The Weekly does it again: a nice piece of satire aimed not necessarily at Seattleites, but at people in general. These stereotypes could live in any city; that's the appeal of it, don't you think?

I don't know why they're ragging on that green house. It totally rules.

How tacky that AT thinks it's okay to post pictures of people homes and call them Seattle's ugliest. The article discusses ugly houses in a general terms, but doesn't go so far as to post pictures of peoples homes. Totally classless and mean spirited.

I don't think any of the houses pictured here (excepting the 'Appalachian' shack) are so ugly that they can't be helped. The Scope green mini art deco casbah at the top actually looks kinda cool, though who knows what horrors lurk inside.

I like the way you think, thunderwing. With a little maintenance in the front garden, I think the green house rocks. I'd love to live in "The Misfit"!

That was sooo funny! I agree with allisonlindsay. That and everyone of those homes are within a 10 mile radius of where I live!

I didn't take time to link to the article, and like somebody else said, who knows what the inside is like, but I'm another major fan of that mysterious green beauty at the top, and with some appropriate landscaping --say a series of Cubist-style clipped box hedges instead of the tangled, scraggly weedlot that's thre now--this place could be the star of the neighborhood. Actually, I bet it already is. It just doesn't know it.
And, sure, it's a mess now, but I'd take the Appalachian in a heartbeat. At least I could work with the existing aesthetic when I cleaned the place up, whereas there's no way in the world I could fix what's wrong with some of the over-gabled monstrosities going up in the suburbs these days.

I picked this article up and the hate spewed at the cancer-growth lot-line houses warmed my cold black heart. That said, I prefer to read The Stranger (Seattle's Only newspaper).
Also, I didn't see the web version w/photos... that house used as an example for "The Appalachian" is SO not the best example i've seen of that style. That poor house just needs some love, where is the blocked el camino?

Petro & DahliaCactus â the pictures are from Seattle Weekly's accompanying slideshow feature, on a separate page from the article (confusingly). I've gone back and added links.

I totally dig The Misfit. Just wait until it's torn down and a hideous McMansion goes up in its place - then you'll miss it!
