A Portrait of Many Artists
Seattle Homes & Lifestyles: April 2008

The current issue of Seattle Homes & Lifestyles is all about art. Appropriately, then, is this feature on the home of Michael and Bernadette Monroe. Michael is the director and chief curator at the Bellevue Art Museum — you can bet there's a lot of art on display in their home.

The couple spent many years living in a 3,000+ square foot home in Virginia, then did a stint in New York and its tiny apartments before settling in their current 1,600 square foot home here in 2004.

Their AIA award–winning home was built in 1987, and unlike most remodeling stories we hear these days, the couple actually put in extra walls to accommodate their vast collection of hanging artwork.

This house is beautiful. I love the fact that nothing seems to go.
