Bizarre Account of S.F. Eviction Battle
SF Chronicle: 04.27.08

4-28-eviction.jpgAnd in the things could be worse category... Although we've had our share of interesting landlords, we've never rented from people who threw pebbles against our window, sent emails using our name, and even cut holes in our floor and wedges out of beams... acts all allegedly perpetrated by a San Francisco couple who had tried unsuccessfully to evict a tenant.

Reminds me of the movie Pacific Heights with Michael Keaton.

This is going to sound terrible- but that actually makes me feel better about my situation. Sorry Marrow!

Wow, the Macy's are horrible people and I hope they are punished to the full extent for their despicable actions.

The capitalist pig part of me thinks that it would be incredibly frustrating to purchase a building and not be able to rid it of unwanted tenants.
The socially aware angel says side with the tenant.
Most likely both the owners and tenant exhibited extreme stubborness and selfishness that does not warranty any sympathy for either party.

austinjohn -- really? it sounds like the building owner was the one doing all the damage. yes, it's annoying if you buy a building and can't legally evict the tenant, but it does sound like they had plenty of other floors to work with/live in. i know there are two sides to every story, but these people are the definition of psycho.

Like a horror movie. (I, too, thought "Pacific Heights"!)

After reading this, I'm bringing my very sweet building owner some flowers home tonight.

My last landlord was awful, but nowhere near this.

And, cinnabons from... IKEA???

I wonder what Nicole Macy put in them...

This also made me feel a little better about my own situation, but not much. My landlord could be the Macy's brother. The fact is, the Macy's knew that the building had tenants when they bought the place. Having a tenant that you will not be able to evict is the chance you take when you decide you will try to make a profit off of other people's homes.

I wish that this situation and these people were unique, but unfortunately I believe that they are not. Many people in this country think that if you've bought property you should be able to do whatever you want with it, no matter the cost to the community, the environment, or human life.

Sending death threats through e-mail should be its own charge--and givien the Macy's belief that they were the ones who were persecuted, it sounds like classic Borderline behavior.

The more I think about this, I actually can't believe this guy stayed. I mean, I understand holding onto your home on principal, but I would've honestly been scared for my life every day. That would've made it not a home at all.

hmmm... cinnabons from Ikea and threats of dismemberment... pretty amazing example of when dumb people get scary.

In Australia all real estate agents must be licensed by a professional body. Because realty is such a popular field (it pays obscene amounts of money for clean, easy work) they can be fairly choosy who they license - if you have any sort of criminal record at all, you can forget it.

I wonder if the US has similar laws, since under such laws Mrs Macy would be risking her career bahaving like this.

Also, never trust a couple called "Kip and Nicole". The chances of them not being psycho yuppie bastards is infinitesimal.

No matter what the tenant did or did not do in this situation, does it give the Macy's the right to make his life hellish? NO F'ING WAY MATE!

This is totally dispicable in my mind too. They are young, early to mid 30's by my standards, that young-ish.

Obviously, they have no respect for anyone outside of themselves, and most especially someone who's got a DEBILITATING situation, in this case migraines and they can be debilitating to some people.

Sounds like they screwed royally on this one and will have to eat their s**t once it's over and perhaps be jobless too with careers ruined.

Nicole, being a real estate agent, should know better than to pull this kind of thing off.

The tenant, wow, sounds stubborn, but there may be a principal reasoning going on, perhaps to gather evidence of their goings on to rid tenants in an unlawful way, and to do that means sticking it out till the bitter end.

Glad I've not had to experience this from any of the landlords, the worse thing was one landlord who, despite being told not to by the live in manager, raised the rents anyway in the fall of 2001 and when I left in June of 2002, he had 6 vacant units between the two adjacent buildings he owned. Bad move on his part.

It is pretty hard to find a new apartment in a month or two. Especially when you have health problems. I have health problems and it has taken me 2 months to really get moved.
I can only "work" on the move for a few hours a day, then I am unable to move the rest of the day.

Plus when someone is being a nut, and you have a great place, it's hard to find a new place you like. Maybe he was hoping they would sell and go away.

"Pacific Heights" exactly.

Threatening to kill yourself isn't quite a death threat.

But yeah, way too young to be this dam* nuts.

I had neighbors that were pretty bad, but at least they were 50 feet away and not in the same building.
