Blogging Elle Decor: Light Fantastic

We're big believers in the power of a nice coat of white paint to clean up or brighten an otherwise dingy space. We painted our dirty, funky floors white to tide us over until we can replace them, but after staring at this warehouse space for the last few days, we're starting to abandon our dreams of cork in favor of keeping the white.

Artist Stephen Antonakos and his wife, Naomi Spector, "whited" out their New York warehouse space and it couldn't look cleaner, brighter or more modern. Citing Greek influences and wanting to keep the space minimalist in order to compliment Stephen's light-based sculptures and installations, the couple has kept the entire space white for the past 40 years.

We like that they've warmed up the rooms with natural wood accents and featured their small collections in simple ways; it keeps the white from feeling too sterile.

While we don't really go in for all white spaces that often, there's something about the simplicity of the home that intrigues us....and we're drooling over those amazing floors.

Love the simple bookshelves in the bedroom. Wonder where those are from?

i LOVE a white floor! the first time we did a floor in white, we opted for acrylic paint b/c i was pregnant and couldn't deal with the fumes of the oil variety.

the acrylic wasn't glossy and showed dirt something fierce. we repainted it, in oil, a few years later, and since i was pregnant again, i moved out for a week so as to avoid the toxicity. it was worth it! glossy, durable...go for it!

Those rooms would look spartan with any flooring.

That having been said, I love the look of a white floor with white walls. To go for a really dramatic look, furnish the room with a mixture of white and brightly colored pieces. The brightly-colored pieces will really pop against their all-white background.

    That bedroom is unbelievably gorgeous.

Jenzoe, you could pull off a similar bookshelf effect with Ikea's Expedit. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/70103085

I'm thinking of acquiring one and backing it with a brightly colored fabric since I can't paint my walls.
