We remember reading in the Chron about the Compact a while ago. Now writer Zachary Slobig interviews a couple of the founding members of the Compact in GOOD Magazine.
The Compact is named "after the Mayflower Compact, the 1620 social contract drawn up by the Pilgrims, those Puritans bent on building a “city on a hill” that would be a beacon to the world. The premise was simple: barter, borrow, or buy secondhand for a year—food, drink, health, and safety necessities excluded."
O.K., we can see buying a lot of things secondhand, but undergarments? Nope.

Read the article--new undergarments are an allowable purchase for The Compact!

All my clothes except for undergarments and shoes are from thrift shops. And I only have about 3-4 pair of shoes at one time. Flip flops, tennies and a decent pair for more formal occasions.
No retail furniture, dishes, or clothing. All second hand. Public library for books. I do maintain a car but I live in Houston and we have hideous to no public transportation.
Cook at home mostly, often for friends. Do suscribe to Netflix.
Guess I am at about 60% Compact but I like it.
