We were entranced by these beautiful shoe storage solutions in French mag Marie Claire Maison this month. It seemed to be a happy coincidence, then, when Northwest Home also featured a noteworthy solution to this common storage problem.

Draw your own conclusions regarding the relative capacity of the American and European versions of the same idea; we for one imagine we would have a far wore shoe-storage problem on the other side of the pond.

i've been looking for an effective shoe solution and have yet to find one. we don't really have an entryway in our apartment and need a good spot for shoes. right now you're using a white wire thing i had in the dorms 6 years ago...
i might try and convert a small bookcase into a shoe rack. i'd like it to fit in a bit, and possibly hide them, but we don't really have anywhere else to put them.

Are you kidding me?
Ugly, Silly, Crazy!
Hey lady when did the Shoe Store Move into your apartment?
If you ask me this womens next step will be the "that Old Insane Cat lady" Title.
Please remember one thing - Shoes are Ugly!

I don't care for the shoe display in the bottom picture. The wood is too heavy and clausterphobic to show off the delicate shoes. However, I do like the idea of having shoes out in the open. They cost so much... you might as well enjoy looking at them!
phauxtoe- if you think shoes are ugly maybe you are buying the wrong ones!

I love the orange tower in Marie Claire Maison, but then I love anything/everything "orange." That aside, it think there's a difference between "storage" and "display."
I'd rather not have everyone who comes into our home realize that 90% of my shoes are flip-flops, thanks. (Florida living... gotta love it!)
