
In today's Chronicle, Urban Design Writer John King notes that the American Planning Association named San Francisco's North Beach one of "10 Great Neighborhoods in America." In North Beach declared one of 10 best U.S. neighborhoods, King describes the neighborhood as once an Italian enclave leavened by a sprinkling of bohemians, now a dense agglomeration of sidewalk cafes and a population that spans the ethnic and social spectrum.

...yeah, by people who don't live there and don't have to hunt for parking every night....
oy, I sure don't miss that part of it, or the hordes of tourists or the stratospheric amount of rent I used to pay....

Um, I have had to look for parking there every night for many years and yes I still love it--yes it sucks, but it's the price you pay for living in such a vibrant neighborhood that attracts so many people to it. Plus the great thing about it is that you don't NEED a car--you can walk so many places from it, and there are tons of public transportation links.
