3191, A Year of Mornings

Early in 2007, we discovered 3191, a lovely visual blog collaboration between Stephanie Congdon Barnes and Maria Alexandra Vettese (Mav). It was a treat to see the gorgeous photographs of their mornings -- mornings spent 3191 miles apart, but that always resulted in photos that, somehow, matched. So we're very happy to hear that this fall Princeton Architectural Press will publish the project as a book...

This write-up in Yahoo Picks puts it perfectly (plus we're suckers for anything Colwinesque): The novelist Laurie Colwin talks often about "domestic sensuality." Your photos remind us of her charming, tactile descriptions of interiors and objects. There's a sense of a life well-lived.

While we anxiously await the book's publication, we'll be checking out Stephanie and Mav's new project, 3191, A Year of Evenings.

While I really enjoyed their website and would like to buy the book, I hated the comments. People read WAY too much into the pairs of photos. Yeah, sometimes they "matched" and it was cool when they did, but most of the time they didn't. The photos were lovely but it was annoying to see things like, "OMG!!! A cat tail and a PEAR! They go together SO WELL!!" Come on...
