A Home Afloat by Gary Cookson

8-26-cookson.jpgFor quite a long time we've been intrigued by the idea of living on the water. Barges, tugboats, yachts, motorboats, houseboats, floating homes, they all call out to us... so we were excited to find Gary Cookson's A Home Afloat. It's not a technical book, and that's okay with us interior design junkies. Color photos of over 30 vessels? Inspiration for people who live in small spaces? Sign us up.

8-26-cookson2.jpgWhen we got our hands on a copy, however, we found that A Home Afloat also gives us some insight into the lives of the owners (most of whom are in Europe, although three are based in AT:SF territory: Redwood City, Seattle, and Victoria, B.C.). We even found a boat, now in France, belonging to a former co-worker.

8-26-cookson3.jpgIf you've ever been curious about living on the water, why people move aboard, what they like, what they don't like, you'll want to take a look.

8-26-cookson4.jpgYou can read Cookson's own tale of buying a barge here.
