Cooper-Hewitt People's Design Awards

2006_09_24_logo.jpgIn anticipation of National Design Week, the Cooper-Hewitt (the nation's design museum) is going all AFI and attempting a list of top design from all disciplines. The cool thing is they're calling the program the People's Design Awards and letting the nominations and rankings bubble up though the Net rather than down from on high.

Ironically, the Flash UI of the nominating and voting website is annoying and clumsy, but if you can put up with it, there are some great designs and products to peruse, from the familiar (Flor Tiles) to the obscure (Kubi Modular Power Strip).

(We like that you can search by state, but were surprised to see Arne Jacobsen's egg chair and Central Park listed as Californian innovations. Cooper-Hewitt web team, if you're listening: send in the cleanup squad!)

Nominate designs and vote here, now through October 16th.
