Zakka Sewing by Therese Laskey and Chika Mori

9-24-08 zakka 1.jpgOne of our favorite parts of Japanese culture is the energy put into instilling everyday practices and items with a sense of uniqueness and beauty. We recently ran across this book, and it seems to encompass that attention to aesthetic quite well.

9-24-08 zakka 2.jpgZakka is kind of a broad term, but in this case the authors use it to describe homemade accessories or home decor that add simple touches of beauty to day to day life (something we here at AT whole-heartedly endorse). The projects range in difficulty, with some for the novice up to the more experienced sewing hand, and all very, very cute.

• Available online and through your local bookstore.
