As you may know, San Francisco is an amazing place to garden. Our Mediterranean climate allows for a huge variety of plants, and our topography lends itself to interesting terraced landscapes. During the summer, though, in much of the city, it rarely gets warm enough to lounge around outside, so we're always trying to think of design ideas to bring the outdoors in. When our friend Bonnie Bridges, a local architect, was helping us choose paint colors for our new house, she suggested a dark accent wall to frame our garden view. We love the result—the bright outdoor landscape really pops against the dark wall, so even on the foggiest days, the garden feels like part of our home...

I like the room in the first picture.

I agree, the first room is very moody but carefree. Perhaps its the combination of greenery and mismatched dining set. Very nice.

I agree. The first picture is absolutely gorg. There's a dreamy, magical quality to the colors.

I've been to the Mediterranean - It's not cold there in the summer...

When I moved in to my place, across the street from a park, the sunroom was painted a dark maroon. Two coats of primer and three coats of a light, bright green later, the park is way more a part of my home than before.

Bepsf,
Our temperate weather and relatively mild winters mean that many of the same plants thrive here as in the Mediterranean countries.

I love how the dark wall color in the first photo frames the outdoors and really makes it pop.
