Bac-Out Stain & Odor Eliminator by Biokleen

2-14-bac out.jpgWe don't use chlorine bleach -- both because we're allergic to it, and because we really try not to use toxic cleaning products. And we've never found non-chlorine bleach terribly effective. So we've been trying to figure out what to do about our white blankets that have dog footprints on them. Alex from Hygge House heartily recommends Biokleen's Bac-Out Stain & Odor Eliminator. She says, "This biodegradable product gets rid of any stain in clothes and carpets. I've used it on everything with success - even on delicates."

Made of natural enzyme-producing cultures, food-grade lime extracts and stabilizers, vegetable-based surfactants, and filtered water, Bac-Out doesn't have fumes, it's environmentally friendly, and it biodegrades rapidly. It's supposedly good for mold and mildew, pet, food, and beverage stains and odors (on laundry and carpet), tubs & tile, clogged drains, and garbage disposals.

$5.95 at Goodcommonsense.net. And about 8 bucks at Drugstore.com -- where there are a bunch of great reviews.

(Have you used Bac-Out, or any of Vancouver, Washington-based Biokleen's other products?)

I've been happily using biocleen's laundry and dishwasher detergents for years. Their stuff is great.

What is safe and works on mildew?
My rental bathroom has no fan and I have no idea how to prevent the mildew that grows on the old shower grout. Aside from cleaning more (yeah right) and having to deal with the landlord, what can I use on it?

Lemon juice and sunlight are very good ways to get stains out of white fabrics. I have a prolific Meyer lemon tree and I came across this when trying to find ways to use all the fruit it produces.
