Close-Up!: Backsplash at 15 1/2 Peckham House

There are some things we blog that just stay with us. The backsplash of Monty Ravenscroft's kitchen at 15 1/2 Peckham House is one of them.

You can see a bit of the backsplash here -- and wow, remember those sliding cupboards?

This photo's from Kohimo's website.

Monty's photo is from a British company, Kohimo, and from their website, it appears that it was digitally printed directly on glass (who knew?). But you could just have a photograph made in the appropriate size, and then have TAP Plastics cut a piece of Plexiglas to fit, and voila, you'd have a great backsplash.

I haven't been able to get this backsplash out of my head either, but what I think about is the stainless steel (if that is the material?) backsplash that's thick enough to park a toy VW. I even bought a little yellow glass car at Fishs Eddy (http://www.fishseddy.com/browse.cfm/2,113.html), to await its future parking spot in our kitchen - whenever we get around to renovating it. I also like these chairs very much, but haven't seen them in my intensive dining chair search, so I'm assuming they're available only in the UK.

That backsplash photo looks too similar to what I see out my window - no thanks.

I agree with greer - but now I'm imagining a winter icestorm, wet beach pebbles, or a thundercloudy sky ...

Can't handle stainless steel counters...once had a horrible run-in with a cold x-ray table while I was in deep shock after a bad bicycling accident. ICK. I know they look sleek, but too medicinal for me. Bleah.

Metal fabricators are the folks to call for stainless countertops. They aren't cheap, and they require a lot of wiping - they're the right counter for someone who wants to make sure the counters are clean, not someone who wants to hide the crumbs, if you know what I mean. And they scratch like crazy.

We loved ours, but for something so expensive you should go in to it with your eyes open!

lorijo, are you in NY? A friend of mine did her kitchen cabinets and island in stainless (not the counter thought, those are Caesarstone). She used Master Kitchen (www.masterkitchensupplies.com) on Chrystie St. She said it was much less expensive than other cabinet options, and they look great. I would suggest starting there.
