Inspiration in Weird Places

05-09-08 potato1.jpg

Inspiration can come from the most random of places. Sometimes you're looking out for it and other times it sneaks up from behind and smacks you over the head. We love this random color duo from last week and it got us thinking about how inspiration is found and where it comes from.

Laura over at the Scoop was having similar thoughts when she stashed a potato chip bag for over one year. She writes, "I instantly fell in love with the gray-blue background color on the bag the moment I saw it, and knew that I had to find a color match for some room in my house."

Inquiring minds want to know: What's the "weirdest" piece of inspiration you've used in decorating your home?

I once painted a wall the color of the band Weezer's "green" album.

Love the bag colours! I just bought a new pair of shoes & am using them as inspiration for my bathroom.

wow. not sure what happened with that comment. trying again without links...

it's not "weird" exactly but it was a strange moment of inspiration. this weekend i was watching the diving bell and the butterfly and i noticed that the color of the hospital walls was similar to my caribou marino dvd case which was sitting nearby. in that instant i decided to paint an accent wall in my bedroom that same blue-green.

This is random, but one day while getting my hair cut the jar of "barbicide" on the counter next to me had a red brush in it, and I was extremely struck by the bright red with the deep aqua color... love it. Haven't actually been brave enough to decorate with it yet, but hope to try some day, maybe just using the two as accents...
