Color Combo: Chartreuse and Turquoise

Blues and greens, which so often appear together in nature, can be used together to great effect in interiors as well. Lately we've been excited about the coupling of turquoise and chartreuse, two bold, acidic shades that somehow make a brilliant pair.

Of course there are many subtle shades to play with in the spectrum of turquoise and chartreuse... from sky blue to teal, and from yellow-green to lime. You can tinker around with these to find the most complementary pair. If you want to go all out, choose the boldest shade of each; or, in order to temper the brightness, try pairing a paler shade of one color with a brighter or more saturated hue.

If you're ready to go big, consider a reupholstery project using a fabric in turquoise or chartreuse. These non-traditional colors are an especially fun contrast for a formal piece or an antique (see second photo).

If, on the other hand, you want to try the color combo without making a big investment, throw pillows and fresh flowers are a great way to get a sense for how you feel about bringing a bold color into your home. We love the green mums in the fourth photo against the bright blue velvet pillow.

Do you like this particular blue/green combo in your home? How do you make it work?

I love the front porch with the christmas lights, looks like a fun place to hang out. I also love the chartreuse painted bedroom, strangely inviting.

It's a fun color combination, but it's very very trendy. I remember when Memphis design (red and turquoise) looked just as fresh, and it sure didn't last long.

Inexpensive accessories are probably the better way to go.

I love this combination. It sings of freshness to me (and has for years and years). In my apartment, I tend to get it in glass/ceramics, although I am strongly considering painting an accent wall yellowy green in the room with my turquoise pillows and glass lamp.

These were my wedding colors! So, naturally, I applaud this entry. :)

I love the freshness, and think that if it's done in a subtle enough way, it can be an enduring color scheme for home decor. This just gave me lots of ideas for our guest bedroom.

I'm immersed in this combo at the moment, too. My current nursery project uses these colors. Here's the nursery so far - it's a work in progress - but the accent color is going to be in the chartreuse range.

This is my absolute favorite color combo! I like to wear these colors. But in my home it has taken root in my kitchen, notably the sunny yellow dishes and turquoise glasses. And a variety of bowls, dishes, etc. in shades of yellow/blue/green. For me, not a trend.

My laundry room has this colour scheme, so I approve of this combination :-)

Pretty much my color palette in my living room, now if only I had that sofa in the last picture.

Here you can shop by these colors-

We have a small collection of vintage Franciscan Starburst dishes, which use this combination, and inspired our kitchen decor. I think chartreuse and teal can be both classic and modern.

Hey, thanks for featuring a photo from Room Lust!

I love Frank Roop's interiors, particularly his artful combination of green and blue. Feel free to check out my blog and my Flickr photostream for many more pictures of his work.
