When we spotted these interiors on the aptly named Desire to Inspire, we were so taken with their lovely muted color palette. The colors are soft but still distinctive, the furnishings faded without seeming worn. The designers from Retrouvius—an architectural salvage shop and design business in one—are evidently expert at using the worn-in quality of salvaged pieces to full effect. We’d love to try these muted tones in our bedroom or office (rooms where we strive for a calm, inviting atmosphere). More from this color palette after the jump…

The soft grays of these bathrooms are a nice way to start and end your day.

In this little vignette from The George Hotel in Rye, the white-washed base of the table lamp and the gray stone table contrast nicely with the brighter tones in the lampshade and framed print.

Soft, rusty reds and browns—whether from worn leather and hide, or from carefully chosen accent paint—are always warm and welcoming.

Even the bright and dark accents in these rooms have a soft, unobtrusive quality when paired with creamy walls and brushed metallics.

I like these rooms too...
...and love those giant acanthus leaf mouldings above the sofa - I wonder where one could find such overscaled architectural details?

Ah, finally I feel at home. The colors are very much what I have in my house. After a day at an inner city high school, I just want to come home to calm and quiet. My house provides that.

I love it all! Two questions: what is the light green paint color in the kitchen? And... where did you find the scroll artwork above the couch? :)
