Colorful Doors

6-10-08 accent colors.jpgWe love an unexpected splash of color, and one of our favorite places to see it is the front door. In general we consider our taste pretty classic when it comes to exterior paint colors, but all bets are off when it comes to accent colors. This door and stair combo is refreshing but not overwhelming (we're talking to you, mint green and lavender house). Check out some more examples after the jump.

As renters, we can't paint our own door, but we like applying the same idea to our home by keeping the overall palette pretty neutral and adding a few bursts of unexpected color. 6-10-08 red door.jpgDo you prefer a classic palette, eclectic, or a mix of the two?

We have gray cedar shingles and white trim - I want a bright colored door. Any suggestions?

Deep plum is next door - I'm thinking turquoise might be good.

Thanks Moni-ka.

That's weird, I've been vacillating between plum and turquoise for my front door too.

I have a medium browny brick facade with white trim so it's kind of... bland right now.

the great news is that it can be changed very easily when you are in the mood for change. Valerie- I say hot pink!

So what about a house with shutters? Our house is grey, and the shutters are a (hideous) red, and so's the front door. I want to paint the shutters, but now I LOVE the idea of a fun colored front door. Maybe a fun bright green? But then what should I do with the shutters?

Thanks guys!

There's a house in my parents' neighborhood that's light grey with a hot pink door! Not sure what the neighbors think of it, but seeing the house always made me smile.

There's a house in my neighborhood that has a gorgeous rose-pink door. It was so beautiful I had to stop and take a picture with my cell phone.

I LOVE THESE!!! all of the doors are beautiful! My sister sent me a link to this page because she knew I loved doors. I am photographer and I did a series of photos of doors in Oregon City a few years ago. My faves were 2 hot pink doors with bright blue trim and a purple door in a plain gray house with white trim.
