Alan Vogel: Designer

2006_08_22_alanVogelLogo.jpgAlan Vogel makes tables.

Wooden tables, as well as chairs and benches. This is all he does, and the designs are simple and elemental.

2006_08_22_overhead.jpgWe like Vogel's furniture for the unpretentious warmth it introduces into any space. Like the big farmhouse tables you might see in a European country kitchen, these pieces are rustic, sturdy and inviting. But they're not antiques, so they're lovingly finished and hand-rubbed with natural, waterproof wax.

Vogel uses only fallen tree slabs and old growth reclaimed antique fir and pine, some of it as much as 4" thick.

His technique tends towards the traditional, with hardwood pegs and mortise and tenon or butterfly joins.

Trestle tables (as opposed to four-legged) allow you to seat more people.

Prices start at $396 for chairs, $600 for benches, and $2000 for tables.

Vogel's furniture is hard to find. In fact, the only places to see it in person are on Washington's Bainbridge Island (Dana's Showhouse) and in Bozeman, Montana (Little Bear Interiors). But he can be contacted here or at 206.855.1726.
