Andrew James Ilsley: Designer

2006_07_11_AW_ladder.jpgWe're intrigued by the work of furniture and installation artisan Andrew James Ilsley.

His website is fairly laconic, but it does tell us that he studied architecture at Berkeley and has been at his craft for ten years. No matter; the images speak volumes.

These works of functional art don't have a consistent look, but they do have clear hallmarks: a clear reverence for the wood from which they're made, high-caliber craftsmanship, and a 360-degree design sense that makes them striking from every room angle.

Ilsley also does high-end custom casework, and a few of these installations can be ogled on his site, including a Koa, Hawaii, kitchen and a treehouse in Topanga Canyon.
