Using bold, floral-print lamp shades is one unexpected way way to add color to your home. And our favorite lamp shade outpost in Seattle, LiT Shades, has many bright options to customize your lamp shades to match your color scheme exactly...

LiT is known for its typographic shades, as well as its colorful fabric and paper shades. One day we dream of having custom LiT Shades made with a bold fabric pattern that perfectly ties our living room colors together, while also adding that centerpiece "pop!" of color.

"I love rummaging through vintage and second hand stores for dilapidated lamps needing a little TLC and a fabulous new shade-very NYC circa 2000 "high-low" fashion," writes owner Dawn Bassett on her Web site.

Bassett even has a gift option, where you can buy a create-your-own lampshade kit for friends or family, that comes with three papers, 21 silk colors and three different application options. The receiver of the gift sends in his or her selection to Bassett, and then gets a custom lampshade in about three weeks. This may go on our Christmas wish list...

Wow - I have some leftover Chiang Mai Dragon fabric and was thinking of making it into a lampshade, and now seeing it in Pic #2, I really need to get cracking on that project!

The other thing I notice is their use of chic little cylindrical lucite (?) finials - I'd love to have some of those!

I have been to this shop and they do all kinds of things using Marimekko, Schumacher, Trina Turk, Kelly Wearstler, Designers Guild fabrics and much more! I had such fun designing with Dawn and my shades are in my bedroom and look sooooo amazing!
