Easy Outdoor Decorating: Elizabeth's New Deck

42809peacock1.jpgOver at the fun blog Peacock Feathers, Elizabeth has posted some photos of her freshly decorated deck, and we just love what she's done with it. This is a fabulous example of how a few quirky, inexpensive items, spruced up with a little time and love, are all you need to create a comfortable and stylish outdoor room. Details after the jump...

Elizabeth started by freshening up her planters with leftover paint from other projects. The little metal basket was a free sidewalk find, and the larger planter came from Ikea; she painted that with the turquoise she had used for the laundry room (also worth a look!). Lighting is key in any outdoor room, and the candle lanterns Elizabeth chose from West Elm should be very pretty on a warm night.

Because the deck is visible through French doors from inside, Elizabeth wanted to add pieces that were fun to look at—hence the wonderful greyhound and the Anthropologie owl.

Here's what the greyhound looked like before! She found him on the clearance shelf at HomeGoods.

Visit Elizabeth's blog or her Flickr stream for tons more inspiration.

As summer approaches, what are your plans for sprucing up your own outdoor space?

Reminds me of a certain episode of Friends... I like how, with so little furniture, the deck manages to look fresh.

love love love the little owl. so adorable. i also love the simplicity of just a couple flowers near the chair. i tend to over do my spring gardening on my small balcony (ie: way too many plants and flowers to handle for someone with a brown thumb, like me)

Really like the planter design - very sleek & light. As for the owl, I'd love to see it in yellow tool dip....
