The Wooden Window & Door Company

8-28-wwd logo.jpgWhen we bought our house, the first words our dad spoke were, “Oh good. All the windows have already been replaced.” Sure, vinyl windows are great for saving on heating costs, but they also lack the character of the originals. So if we ever change them back ourselves, we know just where we’re heading.

Canada’s Wooden Window & Door Company creates period-perfect sashes and doors for homes, churches and museums that are an exact match for any originals. Unusual angles and arches? No problem. Pocket or paneled, the website proclaims that there’s “nothing you can imagine that we can’t create.” And looking at all the options, we tend to agree!

8-27-08 doors2.jpgOur very favorite find are the carriage doors that look like the swing-open versions, but rise at the push of a button.

8-27-08 doors3.jpgNote, however, that good looks are popular. Right now there’s a turn-around time of about 13 weeks for orders.

Since these folks are in Nova Scotia - I'm sure this would be a good resource for homeowners in the Northeast...
...but I'm certain that there are many more suppliers w/ this quality closer to home.
