There are certain decorating elements that immediately call to mind the holidays - glass ornaments, garland, and strings of lights, for a few examples. They're tried and true because, well, they can be really beautiful, but also because of their sentimental appeal. That said, we also love new additions to the traditional, and the images here show some great ideas...
Above, feathers enliven a strand of evergreen branches. So much fun!

A modern place setting with unexpected elements (green carnations are a great touch) that's still completely festive and pretty.

Red and white paper wedding bells adorn a banister. The light green accents combine to give an airy take on a classic holiday color combination.

This is truly hideous. I am seriously doubting the taste level of the SF writers if they think that the feathers with the evergreens actually looks good.

I like the feathers. At least its creative and executed well. I'm just a little nervous about the candles below.

I also like the feathers. The arrangement shown is a bit bunchy and haphazard at the top, but overall, I like it.

I could see the feathers in a store window holiday display where the theatric element would be ideal. For a home probably not.

It is like a drag queen came home from a night out as Mrs. Claus and fell down by the mirror.

I'm not digging these.
A feather boa draped over the Mirror says "Late Night Out", not "Merry Christmas"...
...that placesetting could just as easily be for Aunt Holly's Bridgeclub Luncheon at her place in Palm Beach...
...and the bells - Oh, they're just a really bad color combination chosen by Bridezilla.

i use pink feathers all over my tree. and fashion a "star" out of lots of longer, grander feathers. we call it the Showgirl xmas tree, and it's been a hit at parties. so i'm all for the feathers!

1) I am really distrubed at the remains of Toucan Sam being strung over a mantle like that.
2) The green carnations are okay. It's everything else on the table needs to go back to the college art department's still life collection.
3) I'm having awkward flashbacks of my 7th grade Valentine's Day dance.
