Aalto Ice Cube Trays

6-16-08aaltocubesmain.jpgWe use our Aalto ice cubes more than any of our other ones (hearts from IKEA!). Every time we look down to take a sip we get happy. We've noticed that stores have stopped restocking them (or perhaps they've been discontinued?) so we thought we'd let you know where to get them before it's too late.

These ones seem like a steal at $6 a pop (we paid $8 for ours at the MoMA store).

Unfortunately silicone takes on freezer smells. I had to throw mine out...

I also seem to have problems with silicone ice cubes - our glasses get little sticky spots on them from the ice that are a bear to wash out (need brillo on crystal glasses). Anyone else come across this problem ?

pinko - it is the silhouette of the standard Alvar Aalto vase.

Pinko, looks like this vase:
http://www.aalto.com/aalto-vases.html

For some reason, people oooh and ahhh over that vase. I do not know why.

Here's an image showing flowers in the vase:
http://www.abodeliving.co.uk/luxury-homewares/mid-gifts/alvar-aalto-vase/

It seems that most of the images that are found do not include using the vase. It appears to be one of those things that people buy because of it's shape and name but don't use it as a vase.

Don't mind me though, my perceptions come from a very different place than most other people's perceptions.

You can usually buy any sort of shaped ice tray at Target's dollar bin.

i agree w/ m. i have silicone trays that make perfectly square cubes. i love them more than i could love any other shape. alas...they are taking on quite the stink, so i'm afraid they'll be short for this world.
