Look! Hanging Stockings Without a Fireplace

You needn't feel deprived of one of the most recognizable Christmas traditions — hanging stockings over the fireplace — without the seemingly crucial detail of a fireplace! Livingetc shows us this painted tree branch, hung from the wall with wide ribbon, as an equally festive alternative.

We also liked this idea — chocolates and candies in mugs, tied with ribbon to the bannister.

When I was a little kid, the home that I lived in didn't have a fireplace, so my parents purchased a cardboard one! It was great and now I just look back at it with fond memories.

These are GREAT ideas! I don't have a fireplace in my little urban condo. It's great to see creative solutions to add a little holiday cheer to your space!

Snoopystar, my mom did that too! We moved from a house into an apartment and were very concerned that Santa would have no way to get in and, more importantly, no place to hang our stockings! It remains one of my best christmas memories.

Love the wood. Wish I could do it, but my old, plaster walls would probably fall apart!

When I was a kid, I read a children's book about a tiny elf that lives in Santa's beard. When Santa encounters a house that has a chimney too small for him to fit in it, the elf gets into the house through small openings, like under the door, and lets Santa in. It was a great relief for me at the time since my family lived in a townhouse. I've already told the story to one young, concerned apartment dweller.
