Atlas Tapestry

Our shower curtain at home when we were growing up was a map of the word, and we credit this fact with our early familiarity with place names such as Ljubljana, Reykjavik and Pyongyang. While this multi-purpose textile doesn't include names, the shape of our world's land masses, set against orange, provide a pleasing and familiar graphic statement.

We find it looks a bit like a cowhide, no? We've seen so many uses for paper maps in home decor throughout the years, but this is the first we've seen that can double as bedding and curtains.

I think I just figured out what to cover my cream couch with until I can live sans messy roommates!

I like that they used Peters projection of the world (the most accurate respresentation of the relative size of countries, unlike older projections that made the Northern hemisphere disproportionately big). I love maps in decor, they make me feel excited by the world (and are fairly cheap to do too). My friend has maps of the places he's lived on his walls (a town in Germany, the Paris metro etc)-must bring back memories for him as well as being lovely graphics.
