Has January Jumpstart inspired you to take on an upholstery project? We recently recovered our dining room chairs with some IKEA curtains, and have used their fabrics for other projects in the past. Bold, colorful, and cheap, it's the kind of stuff our DIY dreams are made of.
We haven't seen the new Fredricka fabric in person yet, but we have a feeling we'll be picking up a few yards next time we're there. We're especially liking this orange and red Amy Butler-esque pattern above.
It took us several years of regular visits to realize IKEA even carried fabric, now the section (usually tucked away behind the window coverings) is a can't-miss for us. We tend to snap up fabric we like when we're there even if we don't have a specific use in mind, because like many of their products it's seasonal and cheap.
Fredricka fabric at IKEA, $5.99 a yard.
That fabric is on my birthday list - I don't have an Ikea near me, so I've asked my parents (who live in Brussels) to send me a few meters from theirs through APO! I'm going to use it to ban the vinyl from a couple of "dentist's office" style waiting room chairs.

Some of those look like Matisse to me. Very cheerful.

This stuff looks ideal for cutting up and framing, something I keep seeing on TV and in magazines and have been wanting to try.

I liked this picture so much that I plunked the kids in the car and drove off to Ikea to buy it to recover my dining room chair-seats. It looks fabulous in person (only warning: the pattern on the red/orange fabric featured is bigger than you might expect -- but I like it even better that way!) Now I can perk up my dining room with just a staple gun and this fabric.

I have, in fact, seen it in person, and I even made a bag out of it! It's a really nice lightweight but sturdy fabric, and the colors are really cheerful!
