Uzbek Suzani

12-4-uzbek.jpg

Breathtaking. The color of this tapestry alone is enough to jolt us from our winter deluge doldrums.

A vintage piece of traditional Uzbek folk art, this suzani is on our go-to list to dress up our walls, tables, windows and bed.

$127.50 at Yurdan. Hand-stitched.

I am so tired of suzanis I could scream.

I find suzanis to be so beautiful, especially when they're limited to a few colors and laid over a bed. Too bad I can never afford the ones I love.

Yes, suzanis have become a tad bit common, but the older ones are still beautiful.

I think it's a good thing suzanis are more well known now. That means this embroidery craft will get preserved, since it has become commercially relevant. Oh, and because of suzanis ignorant Americans might even become aware that Uzbekistan exists. But they do tend to become tired of things pretty fast ...

Hey, verasue, very nice post! Thanks.
But, I agree with readingglasses. This old styled suzanis are not inspiring. I prefer the ones offered at this store - www.oriental-creations.com - take a look yourself.
Here is the link to suzanis category - http://www.oriental-creations.com/suzani-embroidery.html
Good luck!!!
