2 good color tips:
1. Choose colors for your home the same way you would choose for your wardrobe.
2. If you like a color on a swatch, go with the next shade darker.
2 good color resources:
1. Browsing through magazines such as Crate & Barrel and Home magazines.
2. Finding a color you like in someone's home and asking them the name of it.
Probably one that looks better in person. Definitely a stand-out among the neighbors, I bet.
Your house is beautiful, but it's hard to vote because the pictures are so dark. I can't really tell what has color and what doesn't (the walls? the loveset?) except for the red. I do like the way the red is used though and the fun art.
Love it! Although I agree it is hard to judge the color from the dark photo. Still, I want to see the whole house based on these pics.
Is the weinermobile painting an original?
And it's funny... your color tip #2 is my exact tip I was going to use for my entry. People always say "go two shades lighter", but I find people (including myself) generally err on the side of being too cautious.
Was there some furniture rearranging? I don't see the loveseat in the first pic. Love space and windows...some windows are best left naked!
Dig the red table lamp...where did you find it?
Nice! I especially like the painting of your weiner. :p
I like it, unfortunately, your pictures are kinda dark and probably not shot at the best angle (the second photo) to show off your cool room. My livingroom is like a long rectangular box so I know how hard it can be to show off everything.
Adore the weiner-mobile painting!
wienermobile painting made me smile.
Love the warm colors! also the paintings, very fun. The kitty looks right at home!
Thank you for your kind words about my painting of the weiner mobile!
I thought the contest was for FALL COLORS and I was thrilled to find I had brown, red, orange and yellow in my living room. The picture IS dark. I rushed and took the pix in the early evening and I moved the couch for the second shot and scratched my floors. darnit.
I am SO INSPIRED at how beautiful all your homes are and I plead temporary insanity for sending my dark photos in. I appreciate your kind words just the same.
You know, the more I look at that second photo the more I love this space. The lighting works so swell with the colors.
Finally.. someone with "Googie" in their pics. I love that this is a mid century modern house and it's got the same furnishings of the period. It's fun and inviting . I wish you put better lit pics up:( In Contention!!
I like this a lot in spite of the less-than-optimal photos.
Yay Santa Rosa!!! (I just moved from Sonoma County) I love the personality this room evokes.
If you can take better pictures and send them in ASAP, AT may switch them out for you. They did this for another entry last week.
From what I can see it looks great and I love the pinkish-red accents used throughout. However, I must admit I'm already in love with your house. I'm so glad you went with shades and not curtains. Those windows were meant to be seen just like this. Good luck in the contest.
But really, try to get some better pictures in if you can. I'd love to see more of this place.
Yippee for red. You need to come to Morocco - you would love it.
I like your weiner.
Ha! I laughed out loud reading LaDonna's comment. I also love the weiner painting. I love your place. I hope to move from my studio to a ranch. You need a little something next your sofa besides that (cooler? what is that?) CB2 has really cute red stacking tables. Maybe you'll win a prize and you can buy one!
I love your judicial use of red. Your place makes me happy.
The Mrs. - what is googie?
Yes, judicious is a good word here! It doesn't hurt to look at, and its well-considered and comfortable feeling. I love/covet the weiner painting and also the giant jack on the coffee table. The room strikes a fine balance between use of red, the layout of the room, and the scale of the furnishings. I definitely like that red is the key color in the room but that its not *everywhere*. Sorry about your floors, that stinks.
Hot dog! This entry's a weiner!
i
...love the weenie chair, is what i was trying to say. and the retro sofa pillows. thank you.
