#25 - Paj's Bold, Energetic Bathroom

Name: Paj
Location: Boise, Idaho
Type: 4-bedroom home (owned)

Why I use color:

I use color because it turns lifeless rooms into interesting space. I love the energy from deep, rich and/or bold colors. I think that where there isn’t color, space can look unfinished and empty, regardless of what things may be crowding a room. I love to surround myself with color because it’s like creating a piece of art. Color is fun, expressive and tells so much about a person.

2 good color tips:

1. I have learned that copying color designs isn’t a bad thing. If you love a certain look you’ve seen in a magazine, or in a home, it’s okay to recreate it in your own space. I stole my whole idea for my bathroom from a Moen faucet ad in a magazine.

2. White can be classy and energetic. White/light color schemes can be done well by using abundant textures in your designs to make up for lack of color. I’ve seen it done and it can be just as cushy and beautiful as any well-done color scheme.

2 good color resources:

1. For Color Paint: The Home Depot Guys. I think the Home Depot paint department is fabulous. They know everything you’ve ever wanted to know about color, live and in person. From Primers, to Textures, to what brushes to use, they can be a huge help to a painting project.

2. Scrapbook Stores. This may come as a surprise to some, but scrapbook paper stores are phenomenal places to look for interesting and beautiful color schemes. The paper designs these days are beautiful, rich, and artistic. You could spend hours looking at designed paper. Plus, you’ll never leave disappointed. You can match anything you currently have, whether it’s a pillow, or a piece of old china. Color scheme ideas are abundant. And the best part is, when you find a color scheme, all you pay is 50 cents to a dollar and you have your idea swatches on paper. How easy is that to take with you when you’re shopping for items you need?

I like that color a lot, but I think the space might be softened up a bit with a few interesting plants for texture as well as some art/wall hangings that contrast a little better with the red wall color. Nice, big, luxurious bath, hope you enjoy it!

It's a nice color, just not very creative.

Wow! It's the same color scheme as #19 - Rachel's Bloody Good Bathroom! Obviously, not the same sense of style...I'm ONLY talking about the colors.

To be quite honest, this is not my favorite combination of colors. But I do think that when using dark colors it is nice to see light colors for strong contrast, which you have done here. It also helps that it is immaculately clean in there.

This entry is much nicer than the other red/white/black bathroom, but just seems kind of trite and overdone to me. But I am a hater of bathroom design in general.

I am seeing a lot of bloggers say that they'd like to see more of people's homes and I echo that sentiment. It just doesn't seem right to focus on only one small area and send two photos of that. I am sure there are other areas of your home that are lovely too.

Paj, I like your bathroom. Is it original or a remodel?

I like the color, I'm just not sure I like in this room. It doesn't really match the style of the floors and there's a lot of sucha dark color without anything breaking it up. I don't think black and white should be your accents on the wall b/c you can hardly see the black.

Well it's bold all right...
I like the wall color a lot, but feels like this would have been a much better space if that color was used only on one of the walls.
Just feels like you need to do your business and get out of that bathroom as soon as possible! Instead of soaking in that very comfy looking bath area.
That's my two cents.

love the black and white, not a fan of the red with it. but the good news is that you can easily change that red. soft gray? blue?

Thanks for the critiques. I donÂ’t think itÂ’s 1984, although I did love the 80Â’s! I think itÂ’s classic and beautiful, but I understand, to each his own color schemeÂ… ItÂ’s a good thing I live here, huh ?
ItÂ’s a fun brilliant red with floors that pop, plus thereÂ’s a lot more bathroom than this and so the deep red makes it feel warm & cozy. My double vanity is light and I have huge mirrors on the opposite side. I tried taking a snapshot of the other side, but the mirrors kept reflecting the flash so much that you couldnÂ’t really see it clearly.

peggy,
I did want to enter my living room, or my kitchen- but I could not get good photos of either space, my photos just kept coming out too dark. These bath shots came out dark also, but lighter than the others.
I also enjoy looking at all the bigger spaces of the different homes.

I really like the whole red/white and black theme. I wish I could see the other side of this bath. This bathroom sounds bigger than my apt. no fair.
