Why I use color:
Colors add flavor to our home. Some rooms are spicy, some sweet. Some soothe the palate, but should never feel or taste bland.

2 good color tips:
1. Photoshop is your friend. If you’re hesitant about how the colors of furniture, rugs, or art will fit into your home, take pictures and try photoshopping the piece into your home. Take your time in reviewing the photos and deciding what colors feel best for you.
2. When it comes to color and walls: just do it. Giving color to your walls (even just one wall) is the easiest way to add warmth, character and yes, flavor, to your home.
2 good color resources:
1. I love to observe how real people live. I shamelessly steal ideas when I visit friends and family; I also frequent open houses in hip neighborhoods and am an e-voyeur on Apartment Therapy.
2. Look inside your closet. These are likely the colors you feel most comfortable wearing, so why not dress your home up to match your wardrobe palette?
i love that red color, and esp the tiles on the fireplace, but it makes the reddish wood floor look even more red - I would have gone plain maple or even dark brown to offset too much red...
Too much red! I feel like I'm in a bloodbath. I'm "seeing red." Paint the walls a creme color and replace the halogen lamp and you'll be good to go.
pretty color but again i don't see how it fits the criterion of the contest.
Great first picture, but I cannot believe that the mask is so good a feature as to be worthy of the second feature. C'mon folks... enough close up shots of the artwork... we're here to look at how color works in your space - not close ups of your collection.
Modfan is right. Moreover, too much red is like too much purple... same effect. Sorry, can't see this winning now that I've seen it... perhaps what looks good in photoshop doesn't work in a real, livable space? If you like it, that's all that really matters though.
Thanks for everyone's comments. We hear you on too much red! I should have done a better job posting pictures with more context; there's a creme wall (w/espresso shelving) facing the sofa and the kitchen just behind this room is apricot and navy. Truth be told, we didn't have time to clean those areas. :)
This is our first home (and first AT posting) and we're learning a lot from the AT community--thanks for your helpful feedback!
bold yet comforting
I think because you picked the *right* red, it's not too much red at all. I think a very warm, liveable color.
Modfan--
I disagree. What people collect, most notably art and artifacts, is a brilliant way to find color inspiration, or to inject color into a rental where painting the walls is verboten.
