Name: Emily and Damon
Location: Portland
Type: 2-bedroom 800 sq ft 50's ranch, owned
Why I use color:
My husband and I just recently purchased our new home this summer. For the first time in our lives we were able to paint the walls any colors we wanted. We also realized during the process of painting that it was a cleansing experience, as well as adding our own character. When you choose your personal colors, you are washing away the previous owner's memories and starting fresh with your own. . .
. . .I now don't think about the amazing antique furniture that has been replaced with our "hand me down" pieces. I chose Mango Madness and Ruby Ring for our kitchen because we live in the Northwest. Being rainy and grey for most of the time you need to have fun and bright colors. I have always wanted an orange and red kitchen.
2 good color tips:
1. don't forget your complementary colors.
2. don't be afraid to use more then one color in a room
2 good color resources:
1. outside colors in the fall
2. outside colors in the spring
The first glance I had of this, I thought, they did my kitchen the way I wish it looked. I love the colors used.
However, I really wish you had shown a picture of another corner because I want to see what else you have going on in there, especially how you have intergrated the "Harvest Gold" stove into your design.
I love it. Great job!
I chose In contention because you do have more color than just paint going on. But I also wish we could see more than just this area. The colors on the wall really complement each other and I really like that blue table. It looks like you might have some older appliances based on the color, and I like how you made that work in the kitchen by making it so colorful thus making them part of the design of the kitchen.
Uh, ya, I love the use of colour, it adds a very light and bright
attitude to the kitchen. I would enjoy coming over and
hanging out in your kitchen, it's very inviting. It's like a skittles explosion, great job on combining complementary colours with
neutrals. Are you guys designers of some sort?
Wow! I really love how bright and sunny this kitchen is... and the mix of painted-antique and rustic-wood furniture really works!
Amazing color! Bright. Alive. Perfect for a rainy day in the NW. Judging by the pictures...you must be as dynamic as your color. Love it!
I really ike it!
it almost looks as thought the 70's Harvest Gold stove was a choice.
Great Job!
funny, I ought not like this, primary colors and all, but it works. The simple choices of using a lighter blue and having a little bit of white between the red and the yellow make all the difference in the world.
Those two wall colors are so juicy and gorgeous they are making me hungry. I love it.
The walls are great...beautiful colour combo there- but the blue table and tan stove just throw it off and make it seem too jumbled.
Lovely kitchen! The orange and red really make the white accents look fresh. I'm painting one wall in my kitchen orange and I was hoping you could tell me the brand of paint you used here?
Two beautiful, clear colors.
This has inspired me to paint my kitchen table! - thanks guys!
Did you use a blood orange as inspiration? Kat said it best- "juicy and gorgeous."
I voted In Contention. There are bold colors present, but I really don't feel as if the room is all pulled together.
That said, I just wanted to share that the normally jumbled word code that you have to put in to register the vote was actually FARTS for this entry. Weird.
Glad everyone likes the colors that we used in our kitchen. If we get to the next round, I promise more pics of the rest of the room. To answer Margo in Montreal's question, the paint we used was Bher premium paint, which we bought at home depot. The red took about 4 coats, in some places 5.
