#39 - Vicki's Office Getaway

Name: Vicki
Location: San Francisco
Type: 2 bedroom home in San Francisco. Owned.

Why I use color:

I work from home quite often and I really needed a happy, comfortable space. Color also keeps things looking pulled together, even when my work space becomes chaotic. Fun colors that I love also keeps me energized while I am working.

2 good color tips:

1. If you like one color, it doesn't mean you have to paint the whole room in that color. You may find splashes of that color, in repetitions, to work even better. That way you also won't get tired of that color.

2. Keep a box or notebook of photos of your favorite postcards, fabrics, and pictures from magazines. When you want to redecorate your room, you can pull out those pictures to see what colors have drawn you in before and use them as inspiration.

2 good color resources:

My two most favorite things to get a color scheme inspiration from are:

1. Swatches of my favorite fabrics.

2. Stationery – there are so many cute designs out there!

Love this. I'm not a big minty green person but I think it works well with the other colours (which I do love!). Love the daybed, the desk/chair, book holder, cushions...

I like this too! It is interesting but not OTT. Refreshing with the jolts of red against the green and neutrals. Looks like a great work space.

love your Thomas Paul pillows! They're one of my favorite color sources too.

I think this color combination is really odd and delightful. Congratulations on creating such a cheerful office space.

Love that bookshelf, I've only seen it in stainless before - did you paint it yourself? The reds look so great!

Where did you get the rug? I'm not really a fan of green and red, even pale green and nice red, but I really love everything here. I think this entry has expanded my point of view. Please, please tell where the rug came from. I like so many other things too but, I recognize them. The rug is the mystery that must be solved.

Love the look of your office space. Where did you get the desk?

Thanks everyone for your comments!

The spine bookcase and rug were bought from Hold Everything during their Going Out of Business sales. BUT, CB2 sells a similar one, the "array" bookcase, and you should be able to paint it red or any other color.
Also, I know the rug was designed by Jonathan Adler for Hold Everything, and now he sells one just like it in his own line.

The old-school steelcase desk was purchased from Craigslist (my favorite place). If you keep an eye out for "steelcase desk" on craigs I see others like it from time to time. I *had to* buy this particular one when I saw it, because I'm a lefty and it has a pull out writing shelf made for lefty's.

The Thomas Paul pillows are from Ebay.

Also, the chair was from Target (online). I saw one just like it at EQ3, but this one was much cheaper and it works just fine.

Love what you've done with this room! The colors all work great together - good luck!

I LOVE THIS!

this is by far my favorite use of color---the green is understated and the red is just a bit rusty, not too cherry. at least this is how it looks on my screen...

aside from the daybed (which is beautiful, just not my style) your room(s?) use color perfectly, IMHO

excellent!

Lovely job on the office space. Especially the red accents and red bookcase. I would never have thought to paint one of those but like your suggestion. Not a fan of light green with red but this is a very worthwhile contribution to the contest. Virtually nobody has showcased their office space. This gives one ideas and inspiration for a tiny office space.

Love this color combo- never would have thought of doing it, but it really works.

Couldn't agree with JenDC more. The combination of that subtle green with the fire engine red is wonderful.

What a great place to live!

I LOVE THAT DESK
Great color combo. I would never think to use red & green together but those shades work.

Yes - more about that desk please :)

I love the little leg - it looks like old-school office furniture.

This is such a great office combination... soothing green with energizing red. It's creativity-inspiring without driving one to distraction, as too much bright color is prone to do. Thanks for inspiring me to clean up my home office!

DJ, the desk really is old-school furniture. I got lucky and purchased it from somebody off craigslist. It is a very heavy "steelcase desk". These things last forever.

Vicki,

Thanks for this inspiring entry. I've got walls the same color in my bedroom (not painted by me) and have been trying to figure out what colors will compliment them. I think I'll give red a try.

Oh how I wish I had bought that bookcase at the Hold Everything going-out-of-business sale instead of several sets of padded hangers. They seemed to be of excellent quality but are already falling apart :(
