Why I use color:
This is my first home! I decided to paint because frankly I could! Living with white walls as a renter for many, many years provided me with a strong appreciation for color! White is a blank canvas, just calling for color. I was of course a little nervous about putting the wrong color on the walls... but it's paint... you can always paint over it! . . .
. . .The colors I have used have really warmed up my little home. Using color has given my place a rich, homey warmth. I have an array of rich reds and funky greens. The greens range from soft khaki to bright cheery chartreuse! It's still a work in process, not all my walls are painted, but I am definitely getting there!
2 good color tips:
1. Fickle with colors? I can be a little fickle so I have tried to pick color combos that I can swap out one for a whole new look. I toy with the idea of swapping the red out for some turquoise hints.
2. Color and Furniture - I have mostly wood furniture - Wood goes with any color while still adding to the richness and warmth!
2 good color resources:
1. Since this is my first home I really consume decorator shows and magazines galore! They are a great source of ideas!
2. Being in the Bay Area, there is a plethora of design, thrift stores, antique shops, boutique shops and Craigslist (of course) - All are great resources for color and other decorating ideas!
I'm confused...

Where is the wall colour? It still looks like white to me.
Clearly, you are putting some thought into a colour palette (wine, mossy green) for your acessories, but it feels as if you're just starting to play around with colour and its possibilities. I don't see a strong vision realised here.
Arza- Maybe you didn't finish readding- TJ said; "It's still a work in process, not all my walls are painted, but I am definitely getting there!"
On a positive note, I think it is possible make cranberry and green look good. They are both rich colors, just be careful not to make it look too "Christmassy". Maybe stick to the lighter green in the art prints in the 1st photo. On a negative note, the walls are too stark white. The pattern on the rug makes the room look cluttered.
It would look nicer if you'd bring your plants to the inside too. Maybe on your table.
i voted 'in contention' because of the dog (otherwise i might've voted no)
i couldn't help it - too cute!
i like the vignette in the first pic, but the 2nd pic looks ilke a mess! *sorry*
Cute pets do not a successful entry make.
Again with the reeds in a vase. Dried flowers would achieve the same effect without being so "Pier 1." Any exotic bouquet from Whole Foods can be dried and used in place of reeds. Also the fabric draped over furniture looks messy, and is obstructing what looks like a really nice piece of furniture. The pillow also overwhelms the chair.
That wall you photographed has too much going on, try distributing these elements throughout the house.
