#43 - Val's Robin's Egg Blue and Brown

Name: Val Rousseau
Location: Santa Clara
Type: own home, 50's cottage, 1166sq ft

Why I use color:

When we purchased our home in 2004, I decided right away, no wall would be white! We moved in and immediately painted this front living room/dining room robins egg blue and brown. We wanted a laid back but slightly sophisticated feel. Since then I have painted every room in the house, from bright hot pink to avocado green. I love color and couldn't imagine living in a house without tons of it!. . .

. . .The first photo is one half of the large room that is the dining room. The second photo is the other half of the room that is the living room. Each room make up one large room that is the main living space of the house.

2 good color tips:

1. Don't be afraid! You can ALWAYS paint over it!

2. Look at your wardrobe and see what colors you favor most.

2 good color resources:

1. We got our color idea from a magazine layout of things that are light blue and brown, so find inspiration in unlikely places.

2. Fabric. Find fabric you like and choose colors from it.

I really like the color combination you chose and I think it accomplishes the look you were going for really well. Have you ever thought of being a color consultant? You should!

I like the dining area but I'm not so crazy about the baby blue living room.
What's the green thing in the center of the room?

I think the green thing is a rocker for children to ride on.
Where did you get that fantastic rug in the living room?

I love the chocolate brown contrast with the blue. It's a great color combination. Very calming. Also the contrasting brown provides the feeling of coziness in the dining area that painting all blue would not create. I also like your furnishings and shelving. Very nice. Great job!...and I am an interior designer who should know!

Like the colors in your dining room! Is that dining table from Ikea? I was looking at a similar one but at 74" it was too long...is yours that size? Because the space doesn't quite look big enough, but it's hard to tell in this picture.
