#52 - R & M's Well-Thought-Out Punch of Color

Name: R & M
Location: Belmont
Type: It's a 2-bedroom rental.

Why I use color:

Color brings in so much energy into a room. A well-thought-out punch of color can spell the difference between relaxation and rejuvenation.

2 good color tips:

1. Sometimes it's the most unusual combinations that make the best sense (and impact).

2. There is no need to be afraid of color. It's the risks we take that make life worth living!

2 good color resources:

1. Nature - the most obvious answer.

2. Your favorite paintings - sometimes the reason you are drawn to it is the way color is used in it.

Love it!

Finally someone who uses plants as colorful and organic accessories. The greenery really anchors the room. Your colors are deep and rich; love the red.

Classy and sophisticated, R&M!

Pretty! The rooms are elegant and yet comfortable looking. I also like the plants especially the unexpected round pot on the floor. Love that, except my cat would use it a s a little box so that idea is out for me! :)

Everything. Very nice. Color, restraint, placement, the shapes (the round planter is definitely luscious). All of it. Lots of texture. The presentation is impressive.

All I see is burgandy and cream. Very crisp and warm. To much contrast for me.

Really? It looks a little too much like a page out of a catalog to me. I have trouble getting behind the entries that look like nobody lives there. I know people tidy up and maybe everyone here is just a better photographer than I am but this doesn't feel like a home to me. I do love the art though, that seems like the most unique thing in here. No offense, looks way better than anything I would probably put together, I would just rather see more personality (kudos for someting other than mid-century modern though).

Wow.. I'm impressed. When I went there I never noticed how pretty it looked. Or did you change it? Well, it doesn't matter it looks waaaaaay better than any other room I've ever seen. Mucho cool points for you :P Miss you guys!

Mucho amor

Thanks for the encouragement!

Unfortunately our place doesn't look like this anymore...have boxes all over (moving to a new house)!

Lynn - Thanks for your comment! I love how plants make a home...homey. I like the way they look (although my husband is the one who takes care of them), and living in a tropical climate gives us a lot of varieties to choose from!

Stephanie - Thanks! This is our first home...hoping to do better on our next one. :)

Penny - Thank you! We didn't want our home to look like a showroom...you know, something that looks nice but the type people would be 'afraid' to sit down and lounge around in. Our little doggie can't fit in the round wooden planter because it's got a plant in it...so he does something else beside it!!! :(

Jackie - Thanks very much! The round planter is from the shop of my best friend's mom...they ship to any place in the world.

Michael - I know what you mean...I think there's something wrong with my lighting or something--especially in the second photo, the pillows all look burgundy but they're not. Oh well :) But I did choose a lot of burgundy and other shades of red to contrast the browns and beiges in the room. But thank you for your comments!

Anne - EEK, just said in a previous post how we didn't want it to look like a catalog...but this is really how our home looked before we started preparing for our move. It was set up for a dinner we were having with friends that evening...but thank you for your comments, appreciate it!

PS to Anne--thanks for taking notice of the art, was an art dealer for 12 years and the one in the center (with the two women) is by my dad :)

Anika - Of course you won't remember it looking like this, there were 25 of you cramped into my little house that time! :)

Well, what can I say? I think you outdid yourselves. I love the merging of refined clean lines of modernism with the comfort and warmth of tradition. All in all very tasteful.

Thanks, you gave an idea how to furnish my new Unit at the Wave (Broadbeach, Gold coast, Australia). Your apartment is very homey, simple and elegant. The color combination is excellent!
