Why I use color:
Although it may take your entire Saturday to paint that huge wall in your great room, along with several hours with a watercolor brush and ladder touching up the seemingly endless blotches where the painter's tape let you down, it is always worth it to have the finished product to stare at while you spend the next two days recuperating. Color makes my house feel like a home! I grew up surrounded by white wall after white wall and I am thrilled to have the chance to give character and personality to my house by way of color. It is the simplest and boldest way for me to let my personality show throughout my home. . .
. . .I believe that an accent wall can do more to change the feel of a room than any piece of furniture can. I believe that houseplants naturally lift spirits on a cold, snowy winter day. I just love that I can use paint, rugs, plants, and candles to add life to a room. (I also love that watching certain shows on TLC has not inhibited my ability to keep my color choices attractive!)
2 good color tips:
1. If you want to go bold, go for accent. That way you won't end up with something you have to love (you're stuck with that room until you regain the energy to try again) but that everyone else loves to hate.
2. Before you purchase a paint color, take the swatch home. Stick it on the wall you want to paint and observe how the color looks in your home—day and night. The color may appear dramatically different with the lighting in your house. This will save you time, energy and money!
2 good color resources:
1. While You Were Out: Sometimes they do crazy things, but for the most part they are professionally trained designers and can fill your mind with fabulous (and inexpensive) ways to transform your place.
2. f you have any trouble with color coordination, Behr has a fabulous program online as well as in-store resources (ie: Home Depot color swatches and booklets).

I hate it when the paint gets under my tape! Here's how I do it and it turns out everytime especially if you're going for a crisp look over crappy walls.
Put the tape down and seal the edge with the paint color under the tape, let dry, then paint with the other color. Use a sharp blade at the tape edge to help it come off cleanly. Sharp, crisp, and you'll look like a pro.
Not a fan of the slip covers. I like the red painting in the first photo though.
Very nice room, but not as pulled together as some of the entries.
I do wish "no way Jose" was called soemthing else. It seems so harsh. This is a big contest - only 12 of over 200 entries go on to the next round, so rooms that are merely "nice" (and way better looking than anything in my house) get slapped with this very harsh sounding lable.
take heart kylie and mike - it isn't personal, you're just up against some really stiff competition
