#10 - Julie and Andrew's Energizing Yet Restful Colors

Name: Julie and Andrew
Location: San Francisco
Type: 850 sf condo, 2 bedroom, owned

Why I use color:

Everyone's color experience is unique; their perception and emotional reaction. Our goal with color in our home, is feel energized yet completely restful.

Color is found not just in the paint choices, but in the natural materials of our furnishings and art. To us, the oak floors are orange, the Eames chairs are yellow, the cowhide rug is cream and caramel. Important to the grounded feeling is contrasting the bright pops of color with darks. The kitchen may have a dark chalkboard accent wall, but the ceiling is yellow-orange. The bedding in the bedroom is natural linen, but the built in bookcases are backed with chocolate brown with terracotta above. We use color to transform the space which we live into something completely our own. We believe where you live should reflect who you are.

2 Good color tips:

1. Don't be afraid.
2. Don't be afraid to change.

Favorite type and brand of paint:

Benjamin Moore

Very nice home. Not a lot of color though. Mostly neutral / natural tones, but it's nice.

LOL at your names though (Julie and Andrew -- Julie Andrews) I'm sure you guys get it all the time.

I like this home, overall. Not really feeling the textured or faux treatment of the dark gray paint, but I like the color against the orange poster. I'm getting a little weary of all these tight shots of staged tablescapes & displays, though.

KellyinCali - that's not a faux treatment, it's chalk marks on the chalkboard wall. It looks like it's just been erased.

Ah! Thank you, Anne. Guess I should've read the entry a little closer the first time.

Yeah, not loving all the tight shots. Overall it seems warm, but calm.

Here's some info regarding the poster: http://www.thegiant.org/wiki/index.php/High_Time_for_Peace

It's by the artist Shepard Fairey of Obey Giant posse. I just saw this picture in a house tour maybe? and google about that poster a couple weeks ago. Love it.

I voted insta-finalist, based simply on that chalk wall with the peace poster and the table. Love that view.

What? So we get to see 1. windows, 2. fireplace, 3. a couple walls and 4. some doodads on a table?

Hunh?

This is so not even in the running. Why not show how that (to me: quite ugly) golden yellow merges with the nicer grey of the kitchen?

Why is that while the homes now shown for voting are nicer (e.g. people have more money for furnishing, or completing a "look"), they just don't have the same level of real color as earlier homes??
