#20 - DMODSF's Happy Colors

Name: DMODSF
Location: San Francisco
Type: Rented 5 years - Junior 1 bedroom

Why I use color:

Simply because color makes me happy.

2 Good color tips:

Tip 1: Use the colors you love.

Tip 2: When all else fails, look to nature for inspiration.

Favorite type and brand of paint:

Honestly, I don't have a favorite brand of paint. If I must pick a brand, I'll say Kelly Moore because I used it to paint my room white. I used fabric to add color to my apartment.

Wow, to imagine all of the colors on those walls are fabric and not paint! Very inventive and apartment management friendly.

that first photo is stunning...great space-saving idea to mount your TV so you can turn it toward the couch or the bed!

your purse is really distracting in the second photo and i think i would have left the head instead of replacing it with the plant.

but overall i'm really impressed with your use of fabric! nice job...

The first picture is stunning! If the whole place looked like that...

There are many great elements about this home but I think there may actually be too much fabric being used as wall coverings. Or maybe the colors are just not right for the space...I dunno which. The colors just don't seem to go well together. The fabrics are so overpowering in such a small space. Maybe if the colors were more muted like copper, burnt orange, or more of that great green color...maybe mixed in with more white walls (or some really nice floor-to-ceing white drapes as contrast on other walls).

Otherwise, the furnishings are terrific and everything else is just GREAT!

Really striking. Love the first photo in particular. Some of it's a bit intense for my taste, but what I really notice is a great use of shapes. Love that!

I could never do that much fabric. Dust allergies. (ha!)

NO NO No flash pics! I know this apt is hot, but the flash is so unkind. good work with your cool place!

I thought that the first picture was from a magazine. Really stunning. I had to click through all the entries to find where it came from!

I think you've got a great design scheme in the bedroom.

This is a lesson for everyone at how important it is to take photos without flash.
The first and second photos are taken in the same room just from different angels - it's the same chair, lamp and curtain (just with a plant instead of the Buddha head)
But the second photo is taken with a flash, making the colors flat and much less inviting and beautiful, and I'm sure much further away from the real colors.

I like the way you were able to make white stand out as a color choice in the dining area.

I loved, loved, loved the first picture!!!!! I wish that you played up some of those colors in the other rooms, but anyway, that first picture is the best.

I think I love your use of colour! Too bad the flash is so distracting and obtrusive.

Great work, but pressing a link "happy colors", i never expected to see the colors i see on the photos. I'd call them "dramatic" :)

I too am so impressed with that first photo...it is gorgeous...so evocative. I am intrigued by the artwork...Is it a shadow box frame? or a painting?

It's an old Ikea plastic table top. I removed the metal top that covered the center storage box and painted it green. I was actually in the middle of the cure when I submitted these pics.
My bedroom was my biggest project and I still have a few more things to complete. I didn't get to the living room/dining room area until this week. I've already made significant changes to the dining room area. The Andy Warhol print is gone and all of the fabric against that section of the wall is chocolate brown. I really wanted to complete all of my projects before entering the contest but I didn't have enough time. My cure will be extended to to 10 or 11 weeks.

I have a feeling that if I walked into your home, I'd Oooh and Aaaah for 20 minutes. Buddha and Warhol is all it really takes! :) That said, do you get any natural lighting? (Above the bed, it seems?)

Good luck with the rest of the cure!

I think this is beyond beautiful. I wish a different photo was first because I think many people will miss the "color" thing you have going on. It's just so very, very good, I wish you had been able to get someone with a better camera, because that's probably the only obstacle to conveying your gorgeous vision.
