Fall Colors Northwest Finalist #2: NinaRibena's Lighthearted & Playful Colour

Here's the second of our 4 northwestern finalists. Our judges are making the final decisions, but your comments can help them out. Remember, everyone is a winner at AT ;-)...

Name: NinaRibena
Location: Canberra, Australia
Type: Bungalow, Newly extended to 5 bedrooms
Go to: NinaRibena's original entry

11-12-ninaribenafave.jpgNinaRibena's favorite OTHER entry:

It's so hard to pick just one! I adore and admire JD Design's Wow Factor - it's so crisp and sassy (and white floors, so brave!). I also love the impact of Dan and Amy's Chinatown Loft - that doorway - just amazing! But my absolute favourite is actually the divine textural loveliness of Derek's Earthy Blank Canvas. There are so many unique elements in this home, and though granted, it is certainly not the most 'colourful' entry, it is a wonderful demonstration of the way bold neutral colours, with texture, can provoke an emotive response and truly envelope the space. It feels so comfortable, like a cocoon - a light and spacious cocoon!!! Delicious.

Tell us about your favorite colorful object in your home:

In an ordinary house which is completely void of architectural charm, my collection of colourful objects is what makes my home unique. And so, I could not be without any of them, many have been created by talented friends (framed images in the dining room, red coffee table in the play room), or by me at home (paintings, art, soft furnishings, some upholstery - all on a small budget). I suppose that the object which gives me the most joy is the coffee table in the lounge room - I designed it (it has storage underneath and is on wheels, it tucks neatly into a corner to open up more play space), built it and hand painted the flower (in between children sleeping!). I love how the flower 'pops' against the muddy background colour. We use it every day...a lot !!! and it makes me smile.

I love love love your house. I am currently furnishing my first apartment, and I am constantly going back to your page for inspiration. I love the reds, pinks, and whites. You have to tell me who made that pink rug with the white flower on it. Thanks and good luck!

Loved this one the first time, and I still do. There's so much character here, and you've created a lovely flow with the colorway. Your son's bedroom put a smile on my face - what a great space for a child to grow up in!

I have to admit that I was so enthralled with your dining chairs that I went on a seemingly-futile search for them, and managed to score two on eBay. They're freighting their way to me now, and I couldn't be happier. They'll look great as end chairs with my four lucite ones. Thanks for the inspiration!

If I have kids someday, I want them growing up in a home like this. And I want to be growing up in a home like this too! Great job.

I love how this home is both laid back and whimsically elegant, not easy to pull off. Such a fun, warm place!

So very fun. You showed us so much good stuff we didn't see in your initial entry - like the fabulous bedrooms. I especially like the painted spots (at least I think that's what they were) on the wall in Hugo's bedroom.

I second Rasabasa123's comment. The entire home looks so fun and whimsical that I would love to see more of the spaces you created for your children.

Hi everyone, thankyou so much for the fabulous comments. I am so glad that my home is an inspiration to some!

Frenetic floetry...wow, unreal - I'm so impressed that you found the same chairs!!! I'd love to see how they look with the lucite chairs at your place!

JuliaL...the rug in the entry is by 'Domo' (design 833 in red) a bit obscure i'm afraid - I got it at an outlet place in Aus.

Mmadden...it was pretty hard to capture everything I wanted to show in only 5 shots, so I'm very pleased to be able to show more.

and for the mums (moms!)...I'd love to do a Nursery tour, i'll have to check out what's involved!

cheers all from down under,

continue to be inspired! Ninaxxx

Nina! This is one of my favorite entries! I hope you win!

I am so impressed with how your place is so happy and child safe, yet beautiful and simple. I am not much of a pattern person, but I am amazed at your mastery of pattern. You have used pattern in a way I would never have dreamed of. And it works and is lovely!

Great job! Please show us what you choose from CB2.

It's amazing what a difference the slideshow makes. I liked many things about this apartment the first time around, but it didn't seem pulled-together to me. Now I can see that it is, and beautifully. It seems like a fun place for a kid to grow up!

I looooove this home. Seeing it is like walking into a design catalogue for sure. The designer - NinaRibena - is so clever and creative. I have an installation on my family room wall inspired by the canvases on NinaRibena's front entry wall. They look fab!
A very beautiful home, very airy and light. Love the colours. Good luck, I hope you win!

A huge thankyou to everyone who voted and commented on my entry. I am so very glad I was able to share my home with those who are interested, and am ecstatic that people have been inspired by it. Now that the competition is over, I can share my before and after renovation video for anyone who is interested...

enjoy! Nina xxx

ps: Moxie Maven: the feature wall in the lounge room and main bedroom is called "Chambord" by Wattyl (an Australian brand)
