Here's the third of our 4 northwestern finalists. Our judges are making the final decisions, but your comments can help them out. Remember, everyone is a winner at AT ;-)...
Name: Courtenay & Jeff
Location: Vancouver, BC
Type: Rented 2-bedroom in a turn-of-the-century brick building
Go to: Courtenay & Jeff's original entry
Courtenay & Jeff's favorite OTHER entry:
There were a few I genuinely liked, though the one that immediately stood out for me was ChrisToronto's Winter Antidote. It exudes a very 1970s, literate glamour that reminds me of a David Hicks interior. I love saturated colours with dry, earthy neutrals -- his orange flokati rugs and lampshades against the mushroom- coloured walls and fantastic geometric wallpaper are so rich. The scale and positioning of all the pieces creates a perfect landscape of proportions (including the plants), erring just on the side of cramped, but avoiding it. Plus, it's refreshing to see something that's not cookie-cutter mid-century modern for a change.

Wow wee, outstanding! I wish I had seen all of the pics the first time. The new livingroom and bedroom shots especially. What a lovely home. Congrats, I hope you win!

This is about color, I really do not see that in this entry.

Wow, this slide show is so much stronger than the original entry...which I loved. It really goes to show how important it is to capture it right on camera. I love this apartment even more than before.

One question regarding picture 9 (bedroom) in slide show. Is that window frosted? If not, how did you get that effect?

Quite unexpected color choices, yet somehow soothing at the same time. An inviting variety of textures. A surprisingly harmonious mixure of warm weathered woods and modern plastics: This place is sheer genius!

This is one of the few entries where the added photographs have persuaded me to change my mind about the original submission. I didn't care that much for the original submission but now have a better grasp of the entire space as a whole and like it! Thanks for not including a lot of photos of vignettes.

I see color here, and lots of lovely color, but perhaps that's because I've spent enough time in Vancouver to be aware of how light plays there.

IMO, this is a very skilled use of color. I've seen that same shade of blue in other rooms, and the sight of it is like being hit over the head with a bright turquoise club. Not so here. There is enough of the color to brighten and enliven the space but it is perfectly balanced by the other elements in the room. Similarly, the pinkish/purple color in the dining area could easily become cloying, but the darker wood tones, and crisp cream colors prevent that from happening. In sum, I find the color use here to be fun and lively, yet sophisticated.

Courtenay & Jeff, thank you soooo much for the very kind words . . . David Hicks? Well, we're just . . . speechless. Go Canada!

Thanks for all the comments, yet again! Casandra, you are correct—our bedroom window in image 9 is frosted. We did it ourselves using adhesive film from Ikea because our window faces directly into our neighbours' living room and we didn't want to cover it with blinds. We have another window in the room, so it doesn't get too dark—and it actually lets a rather pretty, ghostly light into the room.

To me, this was the most personally inspiring of all the entries. Maybe because the eventual winners in the final round were either too slick or not artistic enough -
your place is both incredibly creative, with a great sense of taste and balance and fun, and has an authenticity that I would want to achieve in my own use of color. I just love the way you combine fun and elegance.
