Top 10: Funky Casters

2006_06_08_caster.jpgAs promised in Monday's How To on making your space more flexible, here are our top ten caster choices.

Wood Wheels Swiveling Caster
Large Brass Caster with Hardwood Wheel
Solid Skate Wheel in Yellow
Pneumatic Swivel Caster
Designer Wooden Caster with Beech Finish
Solid Brass Caster with Porclain Wheel
Profile Caster in Grey and Apple Green
Designer Aluminum Caster
Blue Swiveling Casters w/Plate Mount
Translucent Skate Wheel in Neon Green

Remember, casters come in many flavors: with wheels of rubber, metal, wood or plastic; ball or wheel mechanisms; hardware that's hooded, that swivels, or is rigid; and with brakes or without.

The goal of using casters at home is to make your furniture moveable, so think about your specific needs before you make a purchase. Where will you attach them, and what load capacity do you need? (Most models indicate bearable load.)

Man! I wish I had something like this a few weeks ago. I bought some wheels at the local hardward shop. They seem to spin around fine until they are in touch with the actual floor. Now I have to drag my my table around with the annoying wheels scraping the hardwood. I will have to replace when I have time. Thanks for the tips!
