Fedora Lamp: A Matryoshka Doll Turned Into a Night Light

03.19.09_RussianDoll_01.jpgI have always loved the metryoshka dolls. Some of us know them as the Russian nested dolls. My grandmother had a nice collection of these and I used to play with them when I was a kid. The smallest one of the set was my favorite. A Russian designer, Dima Loginoff, designed a night light that is inspired by the classic matryoshka doll.

I stumbled across Dima's design on the Design in Central and Eastern Europe blog. I love the two different textures. The shape of the lamp is very recognizable, but in conjunction with the modern finish it has a very different quality than the original doll. Fedora lamp isn't commercially produced yet.

Hah! I love this. Gives off great, ambient light but it's still whimsical.

but it is not really a Matryoshka doll turned into a lamp, but only a lamp shaped like a Matryoshka doll ...
