Finding the Time: Quiet Moments

Somehow it seems that as we rack up the years, time moves at a faster pace. Summer used to stretch out and take its sweet time transitioning to fall. Not so any more. August hasn't officially arrived, we've already filled in the calender pages through Thanksgiving and don't remember eating a single ice cream cone. For this very reason we're taking time to slow down these last few summer weeks and appreciate the waning summer light; just a few minutes everyday. It's too easy to forget to revel in that uniquely California golden glow...so tonight, grab a glass of wine and head outside. Take a look around at the shadows, the sunset and give yourself a moment. Here's to taking time to find a few quiet moments....

Enjoy a sunset or even just a few shadows on the wall...

I seem to find most of my quiet moments while walking my dog. As she takes her time sniffing every square inch of grass and sidewalk, I have plenty of time to enjoy the trees, flowers, etc. of summer. It's all about being in the moment.

I love the last month and a half of summer as by then, even here in Seattle, the sun gets lower in the sky and the tint gets more orange and the air takes on that dusty, hazy look before it all begins to take on that weak watery look as fall, then winter comes and the rain and drizzle and the chilly/cold days/nights before returning to spring again next march.

My moments of slowing down are when I go on walks, sometimes long ones and just admire the surroundings and I often take my camera with me to document the interesting things I see. Late evening, dusk/sunset times are my absolute favorite time of the day - especially during the summer, up through early fall.
