Flickr Find: Balcony of Succulents

061209 succulent balcony.jpgCan you tell we're on a bit of a succulent kick lately? If you have one of those awkward balconies that isn't quite wide enough for a chair but still deserves some attention, why not emulate this look and fill it to brimming with as many beautiful plants as you can get your hands on?

This overflowing balcony can be found in Guadix, a city in Southern Spain. You could go for a more uniform look by using pots of the same color, then put larger plants in the back so that they all receive adequate light. Our balcony is also pretty skinny, and we're thinking we might need to kick up our game and add a few dozen more pots out there for a some extra eye candy.

There's a particularly nice succulent balcony on 18th in the Castro. I took a pic of it in 2007, it's even better now.

Very beautiful but I cant help feel uneasy about the structure of the balcony. It looks unstable ready to collapse?

What are those purple ones in the middle called? I love them and want some but don't know what to ask for at the nursery!

If you are crazy about succulents, you have to check out the "vertical garden" created by Flora Grubb Gardens for the Sunset Design house. I took a shot of it here:

There were some amazing succulents at the Sunset Design house by a local gardener, Flora Grubbs. Check out her vertical garden here: http://urbansardines.wordpress.com/2009/06/09/modern-cottage-at-sunset-magazine/
