Flickr Finds: Adding Color with Vintage Pyrex

Displaying vintage Pyrex in your home is a simple way to add a splash color and personality. Enjoy this Flickr inspiration for some ideas on showing off your wares. You can go full-on with a Pyrex display, or plant a wee cactus and call it a day!

Have you any idea just how many patterns and colors are available? Find a design you never knew existed and let the hunt begin! The folks over at Pyrex Love have a helpful pattern guide (not to mention a beautifully Pyrexed out living room!).

the size that the cactus is in fits bangles PERFECTLY if you're looking for bracelet storage. mini-loaf pans are perfect as well...

A dear friend reminded me of the joys of vintage pyrex refrigerator dishes w/ glass lids - I now have a set exactly like the ones in the lower right corner of the first image.

The great thing about these is that they are easy to clean and don't hold odors or melt in the dishwasher like plastic - plus there's no need to waste money & resources on plastic wrap!

I remember these lime green pyrex w/glass top containers my mom had. I always hated them until I realized how they were much more user-friendly than plastics that look SO dirty and beat up after a few uses.

You're right bepsf!

Pyrex is so much better than plastic. Plastic has a harmful chemical that could leach into your food: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=plastic-not-fantastic-with-bisphenol-a
I feel much safer using Pyrex for food storage.

Out of some emotional drive ( as yet unexplored nor validated ), I started collecting sets of the refrigerator dishes of all colors and patterns. I now have over 30! I'm either going to open the first Pyrex Museum here, or sell 'em all off!
They're great stuff, though. Nothing like low-expansion glass to revolutionize food preparation and storage.

I try to stick with the rare and promotional Pyrex or the obsession gets out of hand. I only use the random mixing bowls I pick up and display my more rare pieces.

This stuff is so practical ... smart design AND a great and colorful reminder of a more innocent time.

There is no such thing as a more innocent time, watch American Graffiti, and you'll understand, but more importantly I LOVE OLD PYREX!!! I haven't actually begun collecting them, but I use my mama's and grandmother's all the time!

I'm almost done replacing all my plastic with the refrigerator dishes. Mind you, this stuff is not cheap unless you're lucky enough to happen across it at a rummage sale. The cooler patterns go sky-high on Ebay. Helpful hint: the type with metallic designs can't go in the microwave. Learned that one the hard way!

Can just imagine what Molly's Pyrex looks like in her casa... guessing it's in her dining room in a glassed front wall cabinet?

LOVE vintage Pyrex! I have a couple nesting sets, and some other random pieces, and use them all the time. I only wish I had space to really display them...someday!

I have over 100 pieces of vintage pyrex. I have finally stopped actively collecting, until I can find more space.

A collector's going to hate me but we just threw out an old pyrex dish like that yellow dish on the left of the top shelf of the last photo. It was so old and had been used constantly. To many casseroles meant food had been burnt into the pot.
